The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA Comes with a New Rugged Look

SUVs are all the rage these days and that preference will be reflected at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show as well. Mercedes will be well-represented with the unveiling of the 2018 GLA class vehicle. It’s expected to be very similar to the A-Class vehicle that it’s based off of, but to have some serious styling changes that give it a more American look.

Style Changes

While Mercedes Benz is essentially offering the same vehicle that other countries have enjoyed for awhile, the GLA is going to come with a new look that will appeal to Americans. It will come with a hatchback design but with a taller ride height. Not only that but it should have more aggressive or rugged styling cues. The vehicle will also come featuring all-wheel drive that will hold up to regular driving conditions and in-climate weather nicely.

Two Model Options

There are no major mechanical changes planned to the GLA lineup, meaning there will be two different models to choose from. Buyers can go for the basic GLA250 or an upgraded and sportier AMG GLA45. Each of these models utilize the powertrain from the CLA class of Mercs. The base model comes with a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder model engine. The GLA45 comes packed with a more capable 2.0 cylinder turbocharged engine, that should offer about 375 HP for plenty of power right when you need it.

Plans for Future Compacts

Mercedes has quite a few compact vehicles now, but it appears taht the automaker is considering adding on another one as well. This one a sedan-styled model that utilizes the same platform as the CLA, A and GLA classes.

The 2018 GLA looks to be an exciting vehicle, and eager buyers will be watching the 2017 Detroit Auto Show closely to see exactly what it has to offer.
